Albums I'm listening to, and recommend

Posted on February 22, 2007 @ 6:54 pm

*Cold War Kids “”: (Up in rags): This is like a the velvet undergroud meets the Strokes — and the Strokes are jealous that their 2nd album wasn’t this good.
* Bruce Springsteen (The Seeger Sessions): The Boss brings together a banjo, horn section, and covers classic folk jams.
* Arcade Fire (Neon Bible): Melodramatic anthems that stir various emotions — just like their last album. In writing this blog post, it seems funny that Arcade Fire didn’t get the myspace name in time: http://www.myspace.com/arcadefire

The reason I haven’t bought satellite radio yet is because Howard is only available on Sirius and MLB is only on XM radio. With the announcement of their planned merger today, I’d like to announce my intent to sign-up as soon as I can get MLB and Howard Stern on the same service.

Won/Lost by a second

Posted on February 18, 2007 @ 11:14 pm

I walked up to Coit Tower this afternoon to watch stage 1 of the Tour of California I was standing right next to the finish line and every racer walked by me when exiting the finish area. It was cool seeing all the top riders and it was especially exciting to see the Slipstream team almost win the stage. The final rider of the day, Levi Leipheimer (local CA rider), beat the Slipstream kid by 1 second Here is a shot of Levi Leipheimer riding up to Coit Tower:

M Ward at Bimbos

Posted on February 6, 2007 @ 12:13 am

On Saturday night I went to Bimbos with a few friends and saw an M Ward solo set. The songs on guitar were generally better and more entertaining than the solo piano. He opened with Neptune’s Net, and played most of his hits, like Chinese Translation and Requiem

Victoria Williams the opening act, was very interesting. She closed with ??Crazy Mary?? which Pearl Jam covers really well.

Yankees tickets going fast

Posted on February 5, 2007 @ 6:09 pm

I find it amazing that the Yankees have already sold 3 million tickets for 2007, while the San Francisco Giants haven’t started selling individual tickets. This show how much demand there is to see the Yanks compared to other teams, like the Giants, who aren’t putting regular season tickets on sale until March 3rd
The 3 million mark is also impressive because the Yankees had a record attendance of 4.25 million in 2006 — so they probably only have the nose bleeds left now. I guess that’s what happens you have a lineup with Damon, Jeter, Giambi, Arod, Abreu, Cano, Matsui, Ciaro & Posada.

Now I have to put March 3rd in my calendar so I can get tickets when the Yankees play in SF on June 22-24th

Comment spam problem

Posted on February 3, 2007 @ 5:52 pm

I’ve been getting a lot of comment spam on this blog lately, so I’m temporarily moderating comments. I’m planning to upgrade to a new blog platform soon to fix this problem. I’m still running the old school Textpattern 1.0rc1.

Here are the hosts of some of the people that have been spamming me with pharma and porn links:

Two great plugins

Posted on February 2, 2007 @ 3:44 pm

I’ve installed two great plugins this week (one for firefox and one for itunes), and I think both are useful enough to be actual product features.

For Firefox: CiteBite allows you to highlight text on any webpage, right click it, and create a tinyurl that links back to that text and highlights it. Here is an example: http://pages.citebite.com/u9r8y1d9ibba
I think there are other cool features that can be offered with this. Two that I’d like in particular are the ability to leave a comment with the highlighted text and the ability to save the quotes in a profile.

For iTunes: iConcertCal is a plugin that creates a custom concert calendar based on what you listen to in iTunes. When I turned it on, I found out that Cold War Kids and Oranger are playing at the Great American Music Hall on Feb 23 and Mar 1, respectively. Two shows that I’ll likely attend and didn’t know about before. Awesome!
