I just moved back to New York City after spending six years in San Francisco, and while I’m familiar with the city, I’m quickly discovering how NY has changed since I left.

One standout is the burger craze. When I left in 2002, Corner Bistro was the go-to place for a hamburger, and even then, it was something I might have eaten once every couple of months. Now it seems there are a number of gourmet spots claiming the “best NYC burger”.

I’m currently staying on 27th street @ 7th avenue, and I have Better Burger, Shake Shack, BLT Burger, and Pop Burger all within walking distance. When did this gourmet burger craze start New York?
